Im sorry this is still one of the pending issue as of now . I tried to fix this issue but could not .

well recently we were focusing on wplms app feature . then did couple of quick and important bug fixes in wplms. this is one is rather tricky but still we will resolve it .

No this is not abandoned yet .Actually we did try to fix it ,we spent 3-4 days on it at that time .There were some issues with the mapping of users to comments table .
Comment user id is not importing actually .We need to add an extra entry for that .
We will be looking into this again . Thanks for reminding it .
We have fixed this ,this fix will be available in next update of wplms theme in vibe customtypes plugin .
Does that mean, we will be able to fix our existing data or this is something that will work going forward?
Well this will fix with a plugin which will also update with existing data.
