When I use a self-hosted video everything works fine. But when I try to use a video from YouTube, Vimeo or Wistia locking the lesson does not work.</p>

Yep the media lock will only work for the videos that you embed from the wordpress media library coz we are using wordpress media script to check the video completion .
It will not work with the vimeo and youtube videos .
