Hi We have been using 3.9.3 for a long time now and had attempted a migration a year back but was not successful. We are ready to try again.
I updated the theme to 4.0 and was going through the wizard for update but it gets stuck at step 2 with no progress so not sure if it is actually updated.
Although did seem like that I see is different than 3.9

Can you login and check if the WPLMS has gotten upgraded? It says migration wizard has run before but keeps showing the migration option on dashboard so unsure which version it is

However, I am unable to create course or see any edit option

I ran the wizard again and although overall it seems to have done it, the course landing page is messed now

hi for that you need to make sure that you have selected the blank layout in wp-admin>>Appearance>>customize>>layouts>>course layout

Hi the course page is fixed , you needed to remove all the course layout to trash in order to use the old style course layout there.
