Moving to 4.0 has been a disaster Every. Time. I. Have. Tried.
This is my second attempt after restoring to the 3.9...
Followed the video tutorial and was all good until I tried to deactivate plugins.... then got this message and site is completely down...

Tried referring to support that other people who got this received but I don't actually see any fixes....super annoyed. Cannot get to admin. Cannot do anything.
So basically you have to do this manually...
Removed those plugins via FTP and it seems fine.
Also, the new plug ins need to be installed manually and you have to add your purchase code into the url just in case you are trying to find help for this crappy crappy install process.
Just horrible...

INSTALL ISSUES 4.0
Tried following video, step by step... but clearly:
Issue 1. Initially could not get plugins to install. Manually did it.
Issue 2. Initially could not get unneeded plugins to uninstall. Manually removed them.
Issue 3. Did not get a "Migrate to 4.0 Now" option.
Issue 4. Attempted to use blank templates for all the pages recommended on video and they look like the attached image.
(Apparently I can no longer upload an image either to this site either...)
Issue 5. There's no longer any way to CREATE a new course on the GUI.
Issue 6. There's no longer a way to EDIT a course on the GUI.
Issue 7. Elementor will not open the ALL Courses page. Tried troubleshooting it. Changing to barebones template. No change.
Issue 8. Login Doesn't really work. Had both check boxes selected and it just logged me in to wordpress but not as an admin. Had to force to wp-admin to get the wordpress login....
Issue 9. No elements are actually visible on my home page (for editing) now because the whole process has changed so I have no idea how to edit it...It doesn't even show any code...??? Elementor? Maybe?
I haven't even gotten to the rest of the site yet...
Well installing plugins it had a bug which we fixed in recent update .
The issue was that the old vibe and wplms gets deactivated when you activate new ones .
But the wplms assignments was not deactivating and hence crashing site .
We have fixed this in latest update .
I checked all your issue appeared due to the vibebp setup wizard did not appeared to you which installs the necessary sample data needed for 4.0 .
After activating vibebp it should appear .
Please share your site url , admin credentials and valid ftp credentials to do the 4.0 setup at your end with old site.
PS : if your site is live we would recommend you to test the latest first on test site.

If this is going to degrade functionality further by updating to 4.0 then what would happen if i just create a new website and install it there? Can I do that without licensing issues and then move my courses?
Trying to find the best way to upgrade without becoming completely broken in the process...

Well i have reverted your site to v3 version since you are badgeOs gift course , custom learning paths which are not integrated with v4 as of now.
theme is on v4 as the new theme works with old plugins also .
Ah.... well I like those features. Is it planned to integrate those? And is support going to remain for 3.#
I also bought several other plugins that are for 4.0.... batch, and a few others.
What do I do with those? Do they work with 3.X?
While you may have reverted me back to 3.x it's not working correctly.
- I still cannot choose to EDIT a course I have built from the GUI
- I cannot add new products. See error below:
