I am suddenly getting a large number of false registrations on my site - mostly from mail.ru emails. A while ago I had to turn off askimet as it was impacting on assignments . Is there any plugin that works with wplms that can protect against these registrations? Thanks.

You can try using security plugins such as wanguard plugin.
