I want raise a question or a point relative to most of my recent issues (similar to a number of other's issues already posted in this support system) with creating questions, quizzes, courses and etc... and even trying to take quizzes and see the auto results. My issues have predominately appeared AFTER we updated to version 1.9.9.1 of the platform back in late October of this year (when it came out). We currently have it set in our admin to auto update the platform and just recently set it so the plugins auto update as well. More specifically, if I had started creating a course prior to the updates (platform and plugins) and then went back to create questions, quizzes, and units after the updates it seems the questions don't want to work right with the quizzes, and the quizzes are not available to add to the course, and the quiz processing (taking a quiz) doesn't auto tabulate the results correctly, presents incorrect answers as the right answers and etc... This can also happen if there is an incremental update to the WPLMS plugins. I also should mention I trials things prior to and after deactivating some plugins to get down to a basic WPLMS setup. My issues remained after deactivation of non-basic (but strongly desired) WPLMS plugins. To test my theory of these issues I blew away (trashed and emptied the trash) all the questions, quizzes, units with an suspected (not created within the same platform version time frame) course and recreated the complete course from scratch under the umbrella of unchanged platform and plugin code. I was careful to follow the precise direction when creating quizzes. Result: So far my course seems to be working and the questions and quizzes are playing nice with each other. It even auto results as expected. As an example, prior to that earlier today I could not get the pre October version of the course to add a newly created quiz from today...it just would not offer that quiz as a choice to add. So here is the question: While it seems far fetched, could it be that many of the issues I and others are experiencing as of late are a result of the latest update from October and the subsequent updates to the plugins trying to render courses and content created prior to the update? Seems too much of a coincidence how I was having problems with modifying or adding to things created pre-update and then when creating the identical thing post update it works. If so,then my fear is all the other previous courses and related quizzes and questions are susceptible to the same problems should I go back and make modifications with the updated platform and plugin code. Is it a DB issue or a updated code issue or both? Anyone else experiencing what I am? Here is what I have today: (I believe we started with WPLMS v 1.9.4 back in May) WPLMS v 1.9.9.1 Vibe Course Module v 1.9.9.2 Vibe CustomTypes v 1.9.9.3 Vibe Shortcodes v 1.9.9.1 WPLMS Dashboard v 1.9.9.1 WPLMS Assignment v 1.9.9.1 WPLMS Front End v 1.9.9.6 WPLMS EventOn v 1.3.1 We currently have it set in our admin to auto update the platform and just recently set it so the plugins auto update as well.

Hi, Thank you for taking time in writing all of this down. Well everything is connected to the settings, unless we can check and confirm whether it is bug or not.   Without going into much description, here are the steps that I want you to follow whenever you update any plugin or theme, just to ensure there are no setting misconfigurations in your site : a. Clear the browser cache : Browsers cache javascript /css files. Since most of the WPLMS functionality is javascript based, once a browser caches the older version of javascript, it will start throwing errors on every page of your site. So, if all animation, click functions stop working in your site, most likely you need to clear browser cache. b. Re-save permalinks to %postname% : Any 404 error is mostly connected to .htaccess, so re-saving permalinks fixes these issues.   Before we roll out updates, we test the last theme version with update plugins and last plugin versions with updated theme. Versions : Version indicate the level of Changes . The major versions like 1.X or 2.x contain major changes like changes in architecture. versions like 1.x.x or 2.x.x are usually maintenance updates or small feature updates. 1.x.x.x are very small changes and only rolled out when very important fix is required in the theme or plugins. So, following answers would help you in understanding why updates are important  and there is no need to fear them. 1. I updated my theme/plugin and everything went blank : 404 error, save permalinks. 2. I update my theme/plugin and the login popup does not open : Javascript error, clear browser cache. 3. How to check what has been updated in the theme or plugin : Whenever there is an auto-update, you can check the changelog before updating the plugin. Or simply check the changelog.txt file in the plugin folder. yoursite.com/wp-content/plugins/vibe-course-module/changelog.txt   Any update in theme or plugins would not impact database, unless explicitly specified. -------- Specifics :  " it seems the questions don't want to work right with the quizzes, and the quizzes are not available to add to the course" Check if you enabled Linkage setting, Try disabling it in wp admin - wplms - course manager ? Check if you enabled instructor content privacy (WPAdmin - wplms - course manager - instructor privacy) and are trying to add someone else's quiz. Deactivating plugins does not resolve issues, so my suggestion would be post them here in forums instead of trying to deactivate plugins or reset the site. Your test indicates that the issues were arising probably because of javascript errors which could have appeared due to cache. Most of the javascript issues would totally scramble the site and you'd feel like the whole effort has gone to waste but usually these very very small issues which can be fixed in very short span of time.

Thanks for the swift reply. 1.  I understand about cache clearing.  However, I prefer to work within the incognito or private browser windows where temp files and etc...are not saved.  Since my issues have presented themselves in different private browser sessions as well as on different days I am not convinced yet the browser cache is a main culprit...however it could be.  So I will "clear cache" as a first point of concern with future issues. 2.  I also know about the permalinks updating.  I am not getting 404 or blank screen errors.  Having said that I will frequently re-save permalinks as I continue with staging the courses. 3.  Don't really think plugins and their updates are fearsome.  As I continue to peel back potential resolutions on issues, consideration of plugins (especially those that are not part of the theme) causing issues becomes more prominent in my troubleshooting. 4.  Like I said originally platform/plugin updates as causing the issues seemed far fetched.  I trust any developer, especially the ones with the most popular themes in their category, won't frivolously roll out updates with out extensive testing.  Just seemed like my situation can be related to updates.  Perhaps it was the sequencing of events (updating plugins much later than the platform) that is causing the suspicion. 5.  Interesting points about disabling linkage terms and trying to update someone's content.  I assumed using an admin user profile would not give rise to issues of authorship.  Will make a note of review these as I continue. Net-net, I am hearing all should be good with the current versions of platform and plugins along with clearing browser caches when any update (major or minor) occurs as a second level of preemptive effort. Lastly, since I do my work within private browser windows (FF and Chrome) would you care to respond on if or how the caching issue may still be suspect? Thanks David.

1,2 : Thanks. 3. We keep an eye for the plugins which can cause issues with the theme. If you want us to test plugins in our installations it would be great if you can share them. 4. For any issues we're here to help. You do not need to worry about the updates, whenever we've found major issues which can impact sites, we've rolled out updates in a matter of minutes as well. 5. Instructor privacy and Linkage does not apply on Admin account. In Private (incognito) windows the browser caching would not apply, but if you've enabled server side caching then it would still apply.
