Hi, if a non-subscribed student clicks on a course batch from the Course homepage, they get redirected to the 404 error page. The batch settings were made as hidden.
Is there any cleaner way to do this? Such as mimicking the action of "Take This Course" button?
Well hidden groups are inaccessible to the non-logged in and users which are not member of that group .
Means only group members can access that group .
So i would recommend you to make the group private rather than hidden .
Can you please explain more on this? :

I understand that a hidden course would not be available to non-registered user but clicking on that and getting a 404 error right on the course home page is bad experience. Moreover, the students don't really need to see the batch for any detail or description the decision making information is right there on the Course Page.
What I mean by a cleaner way that on the Course Home Page if the batch is hidden then,
1. Either clicking on the batch leads to no where, OR
2. It takes you to the same checkout process as when the student would have clicked on the "Take This Course" Button on that particular Course Home Page that has this batch attached.
Because otherwise, the batch is going to show on the course and people are going to click on the batch and getting a 404 error will cause bad reputation.
Another thing that comes to mind if - if a batch is hidden then someone who is not a member is redirected to whatever the first course in that batch is (or better still if a property can be set in the batch such that a custom url can be set) instead of 404.
The hidden groups is a buddypress feature. And this is a bug.
The issue is that it should not be displayed to the students, as hidden groups are only visible to administrators and creators.
