October 20, 2016 at 6:59 pm #75658robwfounderSpectatorI have seen some videos that show demo plugins being used with the original WPLMS them and Blank Child theme. I also saw an article from march 2016 that said you were hoping to have 20+ sample demos built and that they would need a "clean theme install." So it seems as if you are moving away from child themese in favor of these demo plugins. Can you please: 1) Explain the relationship between the child themes and the demo plugins included in your WPLMS zip file? 2) Does this mean that the child themes and demo data are different and shouldn't be used together? 3) If we focus just on using demo plugins we should always use the Blank Child Theme or original WPLMS theme?October 21, 2016 at 6:54 am #75726H.K. LatiyanParticipant1) The child themes are used to override the default theme and give the theme a new look. This means you will not be able to use default design of the theme and will use child theme design. The child themes are mainly used for customization purposes, because using a child theme you can customize your whole theme in the manner you want, its design, structure, everything. On the other hand demo plugins are only used to import demo data and make some changes in the default theme settings only. The designs of the demo plugins can be achieved by making changes in the default theme settings (lms and wplms option panel) and theme color settings. These demo plugins do not customize your theme at all. Once you have setup your theme using demo plugin, then you can simply deactivate/uninstall these plugin and there will be no change in the theme. Now if you want to do some customizations then you can use child themes for this purpose. 2) Its upto you how you want them to use. Demos are nothing but the default theme with different settings enabled and disabled, and the child themes are used to customize the default theme. 3) If you plan on customizing your theme then use blank child theme, otherwise simply use default wplms theme. Hope this helped you.December 25, 2016 at 12:13 pm #86794GrakerrSpectatorWhat about making significant changes to a child theme. I would like to start with Modern theme but change quite a lot, not just customize, but remove pages and links etc. Is this alright to do?December 26, 2016 at 12:42 pm #86894Anshuman SahuKeymasterWell modern child theme has many template overrides which may became outdated in future and can create issues if we make changes in main them templates that we do usually . So i would suggest your to start with blank child theme coz most of the styling from modern theme is included in mail wplms theme that you can use .December 26, 2016 at 1:33 pm #86912GrakerrSpectatorGreat, thank you for responding!
