set up on local computer

Hi, I downloaded my site files and database sql file and tried to set up it locally since I want to test some plugins. I replaced all "mydomainname.com" strings with "localhost" (not the email addresses). But it is not working. Usually it works in that way. Can you please advice how I can set my existing site locally. I do not want loss any feature in my live site. I want to do some styling changes and test some plugins. Please help.
