Student Dashboard (or similar) as page

Hi guys, i'm trying to customize the student landing dashboard (or similar if there is) so i can add different videos and information i would like to share with the audience, similar function as a regular page but on the dashboard what is the best way to do this? i managed to do something with the text widget but i would like something better and easier to update and with the possibility of adding comments as well. ¿any ideas please? Also, is there any way to hide the buddydrive and courses link on the student sidebar? Thanks!!
