It is total automatic process. I guess in your child theme some customization is made which is not allowing users to enroll in the course.
When the user is enrolled in the course then it will show the correct number of seats automatically, the issue is that in your child theme the user is not able to enroll in the course.
I have pout it back to wplms and purchased and it is not updating for me.
I get the receipt emails and orders go through etc. Just does not recognise the membership. This is in WPLMS master.
Please clarify what type of payment system is being used in the system ? Is it membership site or WooCommerce site ?
For membership sites, if the course is not awarded on membership purchase, the user must visit the course page to get subscribed to the course.
Hi. It uses woocommerce and membership. Is that not the default set up? Did you have to confirm your membership to course when you enrolled?
How do I set it up so that activation is automatic? I dont remeber seeing a subscribe to course in the membership area.
We are using paypal and credit card for payments.
I checked your website and found that the product is not connected to the course and also its not set as virtual and downloadable.
Now I have set it properly please check again.

Yes the product should be virtual and downloadable and always make sure the course is connected to the product and product is connected to the course.
When the user purchases a course then in actual the product is purchased and after the order is completed the user is subscribed to the courses connected to the product.
