Is the Woo Subscriptions Add on needed if I am going to sell courses where people pay monthly by subscription?If you just want a normal subscription then you don't need it just edit the product and set the product subscription, refer: http://prntscr.com/byxbw8 If you set the duration to 1 month then the course will expire after 1 month and the student has to again purchase it manually. But if you need the auto subscription feature then you need the woocommerce subscription addon.
