The free slot setting is not effective.
Even I set the Appointment Type of a specific slot as a free booking time, saved availability schedules in "show details" and saved availability schedules in appointment settings, the appointment type of that slot was still shown as "Available" but not "Free".

However, after I add one new time slot and click here: http://prntscr.com/t493j1 for new time slot, the free slot setting of the old time slot will auto-cancel and became chargeable again.
It is not reasonable to request instructors not to add any new time slots. It is a bug.

You mean after changing the appointment type, you are trying to change the slot time(same slot time) and it is again switched to an available appointment type , but the type was actually set ---> free appointment type
