Hi there, we are trying to split the price of courses so that more people can afford them. Basically, we are looking for the typical multi pay option by which customers can pay upfront for the course, or 3, 6 or 12 payments. We know WPLMS can work with Variable Pricing or we could sell courses as a subscription, BUT this is different from allowing someone to pay a little bit at the time until they have fully paid for the course. Then they get to keep the course and never pay again. For what we can see, Subscriptions would revoke access once payments stop. We would need access to be revoked only if someone stops paying before they have paid in full for the course, but they should get to keep the course once they have paid for it. Example. Say a course costs $300. A user should be able to pay upfront for the course and pay $300. They could also choose to pay $110 per month for three month, or $60 for 6 months etc. It's just a way to help customers buy products. Not really a subscription! I understand WPLMS does not have this feature, but I am guessing this would be a very common scenario for online stores so perhaps you guys have figured something out, a workaround or a third party plugin you have tried. Cheers, much appreciated

Well the thing you need is a kind of membership which runs upto lifetime but only when you keep on renewing it .The renewing cycle is upto customer to choose from what you will offer . You can use woocommerce memberhsips for this purpose .   The thing you are asking is not available with subscriptions as of now . In case of subscription user will get access only for particular period of time till subscription expires.   but in case of membership the control of course will be according to memberships ,when membership expire course access will be revoked , when memberhsip is renewed and its status changed to active then access will be provided again .

I see, but with, for what I have seen, in WooCommerce only Subscriptions can be configured with several payment installments. Or is it possible to set up and sell a membership with multiple payments? Cheers

yes in the sense the user has to renew the memberships after it expires .

Sure. So, going back to my question, can you suggest any way to achieve what I described? The option to purchase a course by pay over a period of time via multiple smaller payments. Once the product has been paid in full, no more payments are needed and the user has "purchased" the course, so they get to keep it?

Well what you are asking is the EMI option ,installments at regular intervals while the payment to merchant is accepted as a whole . Same thing you need to have on your site . This option is not available as of now in wplms or by means of any other plugin I guess as far as I know.

hi again! Not really. Perhaps I did not explain myself well. We are not trying to offer payment plans, in the sense of a "loan" to the user who can "re-pay" the credit card gateway over a period of time while we, the merchant, get paid instantly. What we are trying to do is what is very common in business for higher ticket items, like premium courses, where the user sends a new payment every few weeks (for example, monthly, for 6 months until the full item is paid for) BUT at the same time they get to access the product. Should they not honor all agreed payments (6, in the example) then they would lose access to the product. In all of this, the vendor, us, only receive the money the user sends us every month. At the end of the agreed payment period, the user owns the product. Basically, this could be set up with WC Subscription, with the only problem being that, with Subscription, at the end of the agreed payment period (6 months in our example) WC would consider the subscription expired and therefore revoke access to the course and invite the customer to re-subscribe. This is the only part that makes the multi-payment option impossible. Now, I understand WPLMS does not have this feature and, by the looks of it, Woo Commerce Subscription also cannot do this. My question is... can you recommend a solution? Thank you, much appreciated

hello again, after studying a lot of WooCommerce documentation we think we found a way to achieve the desired outcome (have customers pay for a course over a period of time with smaller installments and, if they complete all payments, have them keep the course forever).
    1. Create a Product as a Simple Subscription. Set Subscription Price to the amount you want the user to pay as an installment towards the purchase and set the Expires After to the number of payments you want to collect. For example, $25 per Month, Expires After 3 months. This basically means we will collect three payments of $25.

    1. Specify which WPLMS course they will get with the purchase of this Simple Subscription (we had to temporarily turn off WPLMS WooCoommerce Plugin since the plugin has a bug that prevents us from completing the setup)

    2. Under the Grant Access section, specify a Membership plan created to give unlimited access to the course.

    3. (this step has to be completed before Step 1), create a Membership Plan and set Subscription-tied Membership Length to Unlimited. WooCommerce specifies that "<span style="color: #555555; font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-style: italic;">The membership will be active indefinitely, even after the subscription billing cycle is complete, as long as it has been fully paid."</span>

So, in theory, selling a simple subscription to a course, with multiple payments and then associating an unlimited Membership to the product should give the user the course, and allow them to keep it forever, as long as they have completed all the payments set up for the Subscription sold.   In theory, as this does not work! The course stays in the user account under all circumstances. Whether they miss a payment, cancel their subscription etc. So this makes me thing (1) we are doing something wrong or (2) the integration between WPLMS and WooCommerce is not working in this respect. here are some screenshots https://cl.ly/a57afa (the tried both specifying the Subscription length in the product itself, and leaving it blank) https://cl.ly/38d013 https://cl.ly/a4949b https://cl.ly/50f2a1   Cheers!

hello again, just to be clear.. I was reporting a problem! The suggested solution we find does not work as they course assigned with this multipay set up (as recommended by WooCommerce) is never removed from the customer's account, even when they do not complete all the payments in the Subscription, cancel their trial (if part of the subscription) or cancel their subscription. I was asking you guys to please look into this as it is supposed to work! Cheers

Is it really the user is not removed from course when he cancels subscription or subscription gets expired for him?

The user is never removed from the course. User fails a payment. User not removed from the course. User cancels subscription while payments are still due. User not removed from the course. User cancels during a trial before any payments are made towards the subscription. User not removed from the course. There is no problem with a subscription expiring. As explained earlier, the subscription is only there to collect the multiple payments, while giving access to the course immediately. WooCommerce specifies that, thanks to the associated Unlimited Membership, access to the product (course) will be granted for an unlimited time (<span style="color: #4b4d4d; font-family: Lato; font-size: 14px;">The membership will be active indefinitely, even after the subscription billing cycle is complete, as long as it has been fully paid.) </span>

Well in case of subscriptions the access to the course is set by the subscription itself . If subscription status is cancelled then user will be removed from course , if on-hold then course will expire for the user . We would need to check this at your end . Please share the link of the course where this issue is appearing in your site along with site url , admin credentials and a valid FTP credentials in private reply .

hello, could you do this without ftp access? We just moved to Amazon AWS and I still do not know how to create FTP accounts! Looks very complicated! If so, I will create an admin account for you on our live site and provide you with links to the tests we have been working on. Cheers
