Today I tried to update, and disappointingly it seems that there is a lot of work that still needs to go in the project. I have reverted to the old installation.
Unfortunately this also means that I will have to wait even longer for the appointments to work.
I have disabled the appointments plugin for the time being. I hope that you will advise me when it is actually safe to upgrade and then have appointments working.

It's upto you whether you want to use its version now or later. We are working daily to convert other addons to make it compatible with version 4
When we will launch 4.1 version. It will be going to the most stable one with more number of supported addons :)
