your code does not work, customers after purchasing courses and removed access and after manually adding them again they are removed again.
Please do not share fixes without fully testing them first, you are making our business suffer since customers are pissed off and want a refund
This code screwed me over badly, I'm running woocommerce + pmpro setup so when user membership expiried he is set to Free user, However there are members who have Free User membership but purchased the access to course separately via Woo Commerce. The quickfix you provided Removes access to courses with user membership level_id = 1 (even though they bought access to course via woocommere)

NO THIS IS NOT THE REASON, I am telling you once again this IS a wplms BUG.
I have checked 10 times no FREE MEMBERSHIP level is added to the course. THIS is a bug which occurs in all coursed (over 200 courses on all 7 websites)
The bug is still there, I set membership to paid started the course, changed membership to free. Accessed directly the course again as free user and i have access to all materials from that course.

a) checked, user still has access to the course on expiration. When the membership expires he is automatically set new membership Free User.
b)ok you are right, when removed all memberships from the user he is not able to access the course anymore. However this is a wplms bug. User can simply buy membership, start course, cancel membership, sign up for a different membership (e.g free membership) and he will gain access to courses for free.
