OK, I experimented on a clone site, changed the theme to default and back and it worked. So I did it in my site and it worked BUT after a while the problem came back so I started shutting down plugins and discovered that the revolution slider caused the problem... I need this plugin. is there anything I can do to fix it?

Can you please try updating your Revolution slider plugin by following this tip :

Same tip will work for Revolution slider also .
